Summer Season #3

Another perfect morning, another opportunity to conquer Mt Kaukau - but this time with the advantage of track knowledge.

Interesting Fact of the Day
The Northern Walkway is a section of the national Te Araroa Trail - which will apparently take you from Cape Reinga to Bluff, or of course in the reverse direction.

The climb itself was no less challenging but at least when at the top we were at the transmitter and not faced with a trek across the hilltops to reach it.

While climbing my mind went to that often used Irish blessing. Now I'm quite happy with the whole wind, sunshine, soft rain and God parts, but that first line always strikes me as the very opposite of what would be a blessing to a walker.
Walking on the flat is fine. Walking down a hill is great. Walking up is a torturous necessity if you want to gain a stunning view. Surely the road rising up to meet you would effectively make a pleasant stroll into a hill climb, and the worst kind of hill climb, similar to actual stairs rather than a gentle incline. A blessing would be if the road fell before you and you spent your life walking downhill.

  1. As old age approaches I find lyrics harder and harder to comprehend...

    Hazy Days
    With Lazy Ways

You get less done but more
    Out of your days
How can you work yet avoid
Getting out of your lazy ways

You'll never get up if you don't get up
You'll always stay down if you sit around
You'll never get up if you don't get up
You'll always stay down if you sit around

    Hazy Days
    Lazy Ways

We got less done but more
    Out of our days
How can we ever recapture the feeling
    Of lazy ways

You'll never get up if you don't get up
You'll always stay down if you sit around
Where nobody cares and nobody tries
'Cos a daydreams resting on the back of your eyes
On the back of your eyes
    Taking five

    Bring love to me
    With your body
    Let me hold you
    Endless, endlessly

You'll never get up if you don't get up
You'll always stay down if you sit around
Where nobody cares and nobody tries
'Cos a daydreams resting on the back of your eyes
On the back of your eyes

    Hazy days
    Lazy ways

You get less done but more
    Out of your days

    Crazy days
    Lazy ways

    1. Don't try to analyse McArthur Park then if this straight forward one has you puzzled!

  2. Ha, I like that - who the hell knows what McArthur Park was about - or anything by the B52's for that matter.
Good choice of 10CC - great album and a great band.
