Gardening at the Beach

It wouldn't be a beach garden without a pohutukawa, so in one went today - Metrosideros excelsa Maori Princess to be precise. Goes to 8 metres apparently, but that will take a while so will worry about the consequences in a few years hence. Another holiday project ticked off the list.

  1. Mmmm. 8 metres is over 30 foot. This is high.
Pohutukawa also grow out by as much.
I guess you don't like mowing lawns then.

  2. Mmmmm, I wonder why they call him that!
We've got one, they are easy to control!

  3. Mmmmmmmmmmmm!
A warning Second. Re-read Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, particularly the chapters on Ents. You will see what 'controlling' tress can result in.

  4. It is a very upright variety, spreads 4 metres. Not the same variety that arhes so elegantly over idyllic beaches and upturned boats while children swing beneath its branches.

  5. Plus a certain seagull in a certain poem in a certain blog highly recommended living for the pleasures of the day at hand!

  6. OK, I take it back.
(I hope the seagulls don't roost in it).
